Kyabram's St Augustine’s Tennis Club has gone into recess.
At a poorly attended annual meeting of the club, there were no takers for the positions of president, vice-president or secretary and a motion was passed that the club go into recess “due to a lack of interest.”
Past president Michael Maskell said the club’s battle for survival had been emotional for the committee, but there was no other option than to go into recess.
‘‘It hasn’t closed down permanently, and as such, an opportunity to revive the St Augustine’s Tennis Club in the future remains,’’ Maskell said.
He said the past committee would continue to work with the community in the hope someone was able to reinvigorate the club.
“Our club has a long and proud partnership with the St Augustine’s Parish and school,’’ Maskell said.
“Much of the land on which new school buildings and the new tennis courts stand was bequeathed to the parish in the 1950s to enable the association of the school with the tennis club to continue.
“We are disappointed that we have been unable to keep momentum going for the club given all the changes we have seen in the last six years.
“However, we’re hopeful the enthusiasm will return and the club may return to operation someday soon.”
