Hyland scores Girgarre's top prize

Girgarre Football Netball Club wrapped up the 2016 season recently with its presentation night.

Jake Hyland won the senior football best and fairest award while Ashlee Vick took out the A grade netball award.

Club president Brendan Nicholson said both were deserving recipients of the awards.

‘‘Jake had a really good season and Ashlee really stood up this year,’’ he said.

Other special awards on the night included the Digger Wickham Memorial Award for Best Club Person which went to Kerisha Milnes for her dedicated club work.

Her many roles throughout the year included event planning and club clothing and apparel co-ordination.

The Thelma Hoyling Memorial Football Netball Club presidents’ award went to Barry Fletcher for his work at various club functions and on numerous odd jobs throughout the year.

Danielle Myers also received the club president’s award for her netball co-ordination work and Buff Coburn became a life member.

Girgarre supporters were able to reflect on the season with the club’s senior football side recording eight wins during the home and away season.

The reserves side finished seventh on the ladder.

The club’s netball sides went hard during the season and were rewarded with the B grade, C grade and under 15’s all making it through to finals.

Nicholson said the club was pleased with its efforts and was now looking towards a strong 2017.

‘‘We’re really enthusiastic about next year,’’ he said.
