Kyabram Cricket Club’s exciting young talent was on display again in Cricket Shepparton’s second round of the Haisman Shield roster.
A last-over loss to last season’s grand finalists Northerners might have been a bitter pill to swallow, but Kyabram’s performance was certainly sent a clear message there is better to come.
Two of Kyabram’s band of youngsters Kyle Fitzgerald and Kyle Mueller posted career high scores at the top level of competition in the clash.
Teenage opener Kyle Fitzgerald batted out the 45 overs in the one day fixture to make an unbeaten 78 as Kyabram reached a healthy 2/201.
Kyle Mueller also produced a career high 60 unbeaten after another of their talented youngsters Cade Mueller, batting at first drop, cracked 32 with five boundaries.
Fitzgerald opened the innings in the absence of star allrounder Paul Parsons, and showing real composure at the crease he picked off eight fours in his determined knock.
Kyle Mueller struck three fours and one towering six in his innings.
The Kyabram batsmen took advantage of some missed catches, but their fieldsmen also gifted the Northerners batsmen some let-offs in their innings in which they lost nine wickets but still managed to get home on the last ball of the day in a pulsating finish.
Kyabram takes on Katandra at Katandra on Saturday.
