FORMER Stanhope cricketer Jonty Wall has been awarded a scholarship to play a season in the UK.
While the 22-year-old only played a season at Stanhope, he has fond memories of the country club.
“I was 16 when I played at Stanhope. It was some of the best cricket I’ve had,” he said.
“It helped me as a cricketer and they were a great bunch of people, on and off the field.
Wall, who plies his trade at Ballarat’s Wendouree Cricket Club, said he applied for the scholarship when it opened and was ecstatic to win.
“I submitted some paperwork and went through an interview process. I fly out in April and can’t wait,” he said.
“Different conditions and different players will definitely make me a better cricketer. I’m nervous but excited at the same time.”
Wall is currently studying geology at Ballarat’s Federation University.
