KYABRAM Lawn Tennis Club veteran David Starling has added yet another championship to his incredibly successful summer.
The Tatura ace took out his home tournament at the weekend, winning the coveted open men’s final.
Starling defeated young Shepparton star James Curtis-McDonald 10-7 to win the title at Tatura Lawn Tennis Club’s Labour Day weekend tournament on Saturday.
Despite the close contest against Curtis-McDonald, Starling remained in control for most of the set, building on his strong form as he heads into the Goulburn Murray Lawn Tennis Association finals.
But Starling’s success did not just end in singles competition.
He teamed up with son Matt to enter the grand final of the open men’s doubles.
The father-son duo defeated Melbourne’s Greg Hassett and Rod Wilson to prevail in the final and add yet another trophy to the Starling family cabinet.
David has taken home silverware from every tournament he has contested this summer.
He was influential in Goulburn Region’s drought-breaking win at the inter-regional Country Championships and won the mixed doubles with daughter Brooke at the Goulburn Valley AMT tournament.
David also won the Australian Seniors Tennis Championship doubles event in Adelaide last month, pairing with friend David Kos.
