KYABRAM Cricket Club has missed out on a premiership in Cricket Shepparton’s C grade Jim McGregor Shield competition.

In the final at Howley Oval, Tatura last weekend, Kyabram came up 122 short of Central Park St Brendan’s healthy score of 272 on the opening day.

Kyabram’s bowlers toiled hard in warm conditions but its rival’s middle order batsmen set up the flag winning score.

Best of the Kyabram bowlers were Rylan Cunningham and Connor Hawes, both with three wickets.

Cunningham sent down 19 overs for figures of 3/62 while Hawes claimed 3/36 off 10 overs.

Darren Hawes was the other multiple wicket taker with 3/49 off 13 overs.

Kyabram’s batsmen came up well short in their run chase on Sunday.

Best with the bat for the Redbacks was Nathan Pell, who put on 33 and a final-wicket stand from Jonathon Hipwell with 26 and Darren Hawes, 25 not out.
