THE tag of the Kyabram League’s biggest improver goes on the line in the sixth round of Kyabram League games this Saturday when Girgarre hosts Rushworth.
Rushworth is currently sitting in second place on the ladder while Girgarre jumped into the top six with a big win over Undera in the last round.
While Girgarre has lost games to expected finalists Violet Town and Tallygaroopna, what it displayed in those games has showed it is capable of stretching the better teams in the competition.
New Girgarre coach Shannon Tucker has added some badly needed firepower to its attack and basketball convert Matt Bartlett has proved to be a valuable addition.
While Rushworth has not yet beaten a side expected to play finals it has crushed some battling sides and looks a genuine big improver. But it will know more about itself on Saturday as will Girgarre.
Violet Town v Stanhope, Avenel v Tallygaroopna
THERE are two other blockbuster clashes on Saturday.
Violet Town puts its unbeaten record this season on the line against Stanhope at Stanhope while Avenel tries to keep its season alive when it hosts Tallygaroopna.
The Towners have played some good footy in the last two rounds to account for last season’s grand finalists Nagambie and Avenel.
But it faces another acid test against the Brenton Gray coached Lions who are also playing some fine football and have a potential matchwinner in new forward recruit Jack Exell.
In the other two games Lancaster should keep in touch with the top six or even move into it when it hosts neighbour Undera while Murchison-Toolamba gets its chance to get on the winning list when it hosts Longwood.
Saturday’s round: Avenel v Tally, Stanhope v Violet Town, Murchison-Toolamba v Longwood, Lancaster v Undera, Girgarre v Rushworth.
Nagambie, Merrigum bye.
